Main Gate Square

It's Back Then, It's Right Now

Main Gate Square celebrates its rich history as one of the oldest shopping districts in Tucson dating back to 1922 when Louise Marshall, the first female professor at the University of Arizona, built the first stores at Park and University. Today, the nonprofit Marshall Foundation, established in 1930 by Mrs. Marshall, owns and manages most of the two block area between Park and Euclid on University. Since that time, the Marshall Foundation has contributed over $11 million to more than 200 local charities and organizations, and to the University of Arizona for scholarships and special needs.

Right now, Main Gate Square is high energy, urban and hip. Over twenty restaurants, many with outdoor seating areas serve a wide variety of food. Retailers sell the latest in fashion, gifts, and sports apparel to both men and women. Pamper yourself with a massage, manicure or pedicure at one of our salons, Live music can be found most days at the area's night spots, and special events at Main Gate Square are abundant, including block parties and concerts featuring rock, jazz, or pop musicians. Or if you want, just people watch from benches, lush courtyards and tree-lined streets or from the historic trolley that runs weekends.

The future is also bright for Main Gate Square. In 2006, 20,000 additional square feet of retail, restaurant and entertainment space will be completed at Park and University. While the building will be new, the architecture will be reminiscent of Mrs. Marshall's first shops, back then.

Main Gate Square has something for everyone. There's easy access with plenty of parking in our two garages.

It's just west of campus and just right for you.
